I Want Oatmeal

I'm hungry....but anyways Opie was a spunk ball yesterday (and he has a few knicks from the other horses beating up on him). He ran around on the lunge line for like 10 minutes at a full gallop with bucks and eveything. It was comical. Who knew my pony could move like that :P

Bentley got new shoes yesterday!!! I'm so excited!!! His feet look soooo much better!!! My farrier fixed the angle and everything so he actually stands taller now and I'm not afraid to push him out (he would hit himself with his hoof). So that's very exciting BUT the most exciting thing is that I got him to canter on the lunge line (with ALOT of work on my part) ANDDDDDD *drum roll* I cantered him under saddle and nobody died! This is good!! All in all, good day!!

Been Riding Bentley

So, I've been riding Bentley W/T almost everyday. And I've been riding Opie western :) But I've mostly been working with Bentley. Yesterday he stood for 3 hours as I body clipped him (pictures coming soon). He was very well behaved! I was very proud. I've got the farrier coming out tomorrow to get his shoes re-set!! I'm excited because his feet are soo long right now that I'm afraid to really work him. He is becoming a very handsome boy!!! And Opie is enjoying a little time off :) I get on him and it's like he never had a day off...now thats impressive for a 4yr old.

And instead of Bentley having his own blog (which would be too much work) I'm going to share this one for all the boys!!

wow...a lot has happened

Haven't posted recently....I have decided that bentley needed his own blog...so im working on that :) anywho, bentley has been amazing. I've been riding him walk trot and he is such a champ!! He gas great ground manners now!! Amazing what a few weeks will do. I've been riding him western but I plan on riding him English soon too. he is the most quiet TB I have ever come across. If it wasn't for his height, I could easily forget. Once he gets weight, he will be a hunk. Opie is Hangin in there...getting more consistent every day :)

I promise to try and keep up with this,,ive been so busy.

Bentley

I'm starting to think Bentley needs his own blog...hmmm...lol
Anyways, I rode him today!!! I'll get to that in a second!!! He walked like an angel next to me all the way up to the barn :) and he stood awesome in the aisle. I brushed him and saddled him western. He is slowly getting better at lunging too. He walks/trots on the lunge line awesome, but when it comes to cantering....well hes not so great at that yet...Then I got on him :) Walked/trotted around the arena and practiced turning and stopping and flexing. I'm so proud of him :)

home from midwest

I was just so tired of horse fair, we left a day early. I missed my boys, I was anxious to get home!! Worked bentley yesterday. He came right up to me in the pasture (big progress) and he didn't rush me when walking to the barn. He is still very impatient on the cross ties and he's touchy when you reach up to his ears. He lunged like an angel though!! For a horse that never lunged before, he's gettin good. After lunging and de sensitizing him, I tied him to the wall and scrubbed his legs (he has scratches). He stands like a perfect gentleman. Then I got the clippers out and clipped his face with no problems. He's starting to grow on me :)

Then I rode Opasaurus. I bought a new bosal at Midwest and he rides awesome in it!! Probably gonna show in it. He wasn't sore anymore either!! All in all great weekend.

Well, before leaving for Midwest, I played with bentley. He was very easy to catch in the pasture. He was having a hard time being patient in the cross ties, but once be was in the arena, be was great. You really have no idea about these animals until you work them...they never learn to lunge and they only know to go one way...which is definitely not acceptable.

Now for Midwest...I've been here two days and I'm ready to go home. I miss my boys. So far I got a lunge stick, rope halter, smb boots, full show bosal, headstall, spurs, brush set, halter with name, show shirt, fly mask...and ya I think that's it. So its been awesome, but I've had enough.

Bentley..

I basically focused on Bentley last night..only because I have a limited time to decide if he's for me or not. Brushed him, saddled him, and lunged him..he's still learning the lunging aspect...as OTTB's dont lunge?? I dont think so anyways. Both need trust...they are hard to catch in the pasture. Going out today for more work...pictures later..

HORSES!

Sooo, my Opie is still off on the right hind...probably pulled it in the mud. Kinda bumms me out but I clipped him up really nice!!! He looks like quite the gentleman!! And he let ey clip him with no problems!!!

Rode Rocky, MAN does he have power...and I love it!! He's sooo much fun to ride!!! He has a nice slow jog, and the fastest canter!!

So tomorrow is the big day..moving the TB's to the training barn so I can get to work on them and decide what I wanna do...I keep telling myself I don't have the funds for another horse...yet i'd love to keep one for the long run and see what kind of things they can accomplish...I like a challenge...hence why I agreed to take both of them. We'll see...maybe I can find a shareboarder/leaser!!

What a Day!!

Got up extra early to visit my 2 new thoroughbred horses that I will be training to hopefully find new homes. Still thinking of named for them..

Went to work...blah!! That sucked.

Then went to ride Opie..he was a little sore on his right hind for some reason..probably pulled it in the mud...hopefully he will be all better tomorrow!!!!

More to train..

Getting 2 off track thoroughbreds next week to train and re-home. (or maybe keep depending on how they work out). I'm pretty excited to get started on them!! Probably gonna visit them tomorrow to brush them and take some nice pictures!!!

Rode Opie today....with Reba ^.^ she finally moved her mare to my barn so we will be riding together a LOT!! And she will probably be helping with my TB's too!!! Very exciting :)

Saturdays Ride

Had a fun day with my pony!!! Rode him around for a while and then gave him a bath, cleaned him up, put his fake tail in, and took pictures!! He is so handsome :) Also went and looked at a couple of OTTB's that need homes....going right now to give them another look...

Short Barn Time..

Went to the barn before work today. Rode Opie..his cuts are healing up very nicely. I had a very nice ride!! I have decided that my pony has the best jog i've ever felt...EVER. He is so consistent and has a natural headset and he's just super smooth to ride :) I think his lope will be like that one day too!! All takes time...

Then I worked Mr.Rock (Rocky). He is doing VERY well already. He can really go in any direction....barrels, games, pleasure, reining...anything. I think I will be focusing on the reining..he will be awesome at it. 

Work...

Well, I won't be making it out to the barn today...I have school til 2, and work from 4-9pm....SUCKS! But my awesome pony deserves a day off..he always rides better after a day off too :) Can't wait for the shows to start!!!

OH OH OH!! And I really can't wait for my mini-vacation to Midwest Horse Fair next weekend :))) Reba and I have been planning this for FOREVERRR!!! Can't wait to spend money I totally don't have!!!

Horses, horses, horses

Started the day off with work!!! Then headed out to the barn!!

Yesterday, a new horse came to the barn for me to work with, so I rode him today for the first time. His name is Rocky, he is a grade quarter horse type gelding. He was supposedly a barrel racer with him previous owner, and withing minutes of working wit him, I could tell. He dosen't have any manners on the lunge line at all..he needs a lot of work..under saddle, he's not horrible. He never had a bit in his mouth, his previous owner rode him in a hackamore. Let's just say he dosen't agree with the but yet...he flips his head constantly while riding. He has a nice slow jog when you ask for it, but it's hard to keep him in it. His lope is FAST...I'm not sure it will ever slow down...I'm kinda tempted to just run him the pattern once and see how he does...but my trainer wants me to make him a pleasure horse.

Was gonna ride Captain next, but he had a sore/rain rot looking patch where the girth goes, so I put some medicine on it and let him out.

Rode Opie of course :) He makes me so happy...I can ride any of these training horses, but as soon as I get on mine, I feel 100% better. He is getting so much better with his headset at the lope...I just ask lightly with my leg and rein and he give in to the bit. I'm sooo happy!!! Looks like we might be able to show w/t/c this summer!!!!

Then I worked my little pony, Chip. He has such great ground manners on the lunge line..he is very responsive. I can't wait to sell him though!!! He needs to go to a home that will give him tons more attention than I can now..

Barn Day!!

Spent the whole day visiting barns!!! Started of with Nancy's barn...got to visit Riley and even ride him!! I have never ridden him before, but he was a good boy and is doing well for only his 3rd real week of work!! Maybe I'll get to ride him again ;)

Then I was off to visit Opasaurus. Lunged him both ways and kept an eye on his right hind (he was off the other day due to a cut). Then lunged him while Reba rode him! (She likes doing that for some reason) lol and did our usual riding routine! He is such a good boy!!! His headset is getting so much better, even at the lope!!! And I showed of his "back up trick". He backs up depending on where you kick him..it's cool, ill have to get a video!!

Then found out the drat i've been training was sold today. I'm sad to see him go, but I know he'll be happier than hell with his new owners. I'm really gonna miss riding him :/ ....but I've got a new gelding, Rocky, to start working tomorrow. He's a pretty QH/Paint guy. I'm excited to get to work on him!!

And now I'm relaxing at home!! Work in the morning, then out to the barn.

New Tail!!

Let me just start off by saying how much I'm loving this blog...It's awesome to document everything I do with my horsey!

So, I had a less-than-awesome day ay work today...Nothing major, just had a lot of stuff to do that should have been done before I even came in...bastards...but anyways, Opie's tail FINALLYYYY came in the mail!! It's not big at all, just a 1/2 pound to help fill out his natural one. I tried it on him and it looked sooo good :)

My pony also managed to get another cut on him..this one is on his rump..and it's pretty gross. So I cleaned it and put medicine on it.

And I had an awesome ride!! We are working at tiping his nose in at the lope..and he was doing awesome with it today!! Pretty soon he will hold it there by himself all the time!!!

GRRR!!

So, went to see my horse today and he has a cut on his hind leg..nothing major, but enough to make him sore and not move right. So, I treated it and hopefully he will be feeling better tomorrow.

Accomplished!!

GOOD day!! I am very happy!! Started the day off by going to visit a good friend of mine that I hardly get to see anymore!! Rode with her and got my late birthday present!! It's an awesome jacket with my horsey on the back!!!

Then went out to ride Opie...decided to spice things up, so I rode him english outside. He did awesome!! He actually had extension!! For those of you who know my horse, you know that is HUGE!!! He is such a slow-legged western pleasure horse. I was very happy with the new bridle I bought him, too. He had such a consistent headset, even at the canter. I also tried on an old show sheet and sleazy I had and they BOTH fit him!! He looks awesome in his show get-up!!

Then I rode Captain, a QH gelding. He moves so different from Opie...he's got a lot of action for a western horse, but in my opinion he would be a great cow horse!! And he's for sale if anyone you know is interested. And he is FAST!!! 80% of the ride was getting out all of his energy...it was awesome to let him go full speed in the outdoor. I dont get to go fast with Opie...and I miss it. He did really well!! Worked on flexion and softening of the mouth. 

Was gonna ride my trainers horse, Big D....brought him in and he had a huge gash on his back leg..it was swollen and pussing...so I treated it and he's out of comission for a good week. :( Bummer...

Now for the big news...I have a small 3yr old POA that was given to me to train and sell, blah blah blah. Anyways, after doing lots and lots of ground work, I got on him for the first time today. I was SO proud!! He is quite a handful, but coming along so nicely. He will make some kid a nice show horse...perfect size.

Rain :(

OPIE GOT DE-FURMINATED TODAY!! (See picture at left!) Well, I did get to ride outside before the rain started. Opie is doing soo good outside!!! But before we get to that..let me explain the fly mask....I found it in the pasture today torn into 5 pieces. :( FAIL!!!! It didnt even last a day!!!! UGH!!!!! Anyone have any ideas?? Like getting a heavy duty one? lol

But anyways, had a short ride today due to work :( sucks, but gotta get money or Midwest!!! (Can't wait!!) Reba rode Opie, too and he did awesome!! She even one-handed him!! (I dont have the balls to do that yet lol. He dosent understand it so I feel like its pointless...just another battle to fight...too soon for that!). Well, I'm writing this as I'm running out the door to work...have a great day everyone!!!
